This is a 2007 Israeli drama directed by Avi Nesher. Naomi, the brilliant and pious daughter of an orthodox rabbi, finds herself at a crossroads of life choices when her mother dies and she is expected to marry her father's prodigy. Naomi asks her father to let her study at a women's religious seminary. Devout yet lively, Naomi's life begins to take an unexpected turn as she and her new school mate, Michelle, befriend a beautiful yet mysterious older woman called Anouk. Naomi devises a series of rituals that will somehow purge Anouk of her sins. Eventually the friendship between Naomi and Michelle leads to a growing lesbian attraction. Naomi really comes to love Michell, who however chooses a man to form a normal family life. The lesbian attraction seems like a physical touch in the first place. The film doesn't seem to get into more than a physical touch. By the same token, Michelle's attraction to the man isn't fully depicted at all. At the end, therefore, I remain puzzled about what's really going on between the two girls? It really beats the hell out of me.
