Tiresome read that jumps back and forth from past prologue to "past" present in the Star Wars universe, mostly due to the fact that neither train of thought contains enough content to build a full story. A MacGuffin "tech" item propels heroes Han and Lando on a often less then coherent detective chase for the underdeveloped "bad guy" who wants to kill everyone. The authors constant use of contemporary slang vernacular ("wussy", "janitor", "badass" etc.) rips the reader from the setting of a galaxy long ago and far far away and makes them feel more like they are reading a tween blog or mini-series about Star Wars rather than immersing them in it. Throw in some unconvincing attempts to re-write Star Wars lore a-la a super savvy straight talking Gungan and an inexplicably intelligent slicer/tech wizard Ewok (that still cant speak basic) then drop in a dash of Han Solo character clone meets contemporary issues via a gender neutral swaggering spy pilot (cuz, why not?) and blend on low interest until done. As mentioned by other comments, the story fails to create suspense since everyone already knows the main characters will all survive any and all random moments of peril (and there are multiple said moments) due to where this story falls in the Star Wars timeline. Furthermore, any secondary/supporting characters are so bland and underdeveloped you can care less what happens to them either way. The narrative digressions into Landos outfits and rushed love interest/ quasi-back story juxtaposed with the Dr. Frankenstein meets Star Wars droids, cap off this wandering narrative experiment that you will wish you could have read in less than 12 parsecs instead of 417 pages.
