MARCH VIOLETS It really felt like the author was trying a little too much with the hard boiled detective talk. There is only so much tough talk, wise cracks and convoluted similes one story can hold and this one had too much, way too much. Not to mention one particularly terrible sex scene where the woman is compared to a contended dog. Still, I rather liked the mystery and the characters and it's a good setting for this type of thriller/detective novel, so I'll try the next book in the series and see if it improves. A PALE CRIMINAL While this second book in the series had less of the noir and more of a story, it was not quite as good as the first. It was missing the charm of the first book, not to be mistaken with the lack of charm the main character portrays in either book, but the quirkiness of the story and the funny one liners are gone and the plethora of unlikable characters has been increased. All I think to the detriment of the book. So I think this is sayonara to this series.
