Matty loves to use too much glue both at school and at home. His teacher warns him that too much glue never dries. One day he gets quite carried away with his use of glue making a puddly mess which he promptly throws himself into. The problem is, he becomes stuck. His classmates try everything they can think of to get him loose. Finally, the glue dries enabling dad to take him home in his "glue suit" which later becomes a prominent piece of artwork on the fridge. This story is an extreme example of what can happen when you use too much glue. You have a hyperventilating teacher in the background and children who are trying to be helpful, but not actually succeeding at it. I love how the author adds to the description of the mess after each person tries to help. He moves from a blucky stucky mess to a clingy stringy, blucky stucky mess and so on. And Matty's parents are obvious art lovers. They join in the fun of making art messes at home. I love how they change from glue sculptures to duck tape art in the end. A less messy business. The illustrations are very colorful and fun. They are created completely on the computer and have a bit of a blurry effect. Kids will love this story. However, I would hide your glue for a while. I can already see them trying out what Matty did to create a glue suit. Grades K-2, as advertized, is the perfect age group for this book.
