What Alice Forgot is an often funny, sometimes heartrending, deeply personal portrait of a woman attempting to unravel her own mystery.

Liane Moriarty has come out with a Winner in "What Alice Forgot." Alice love falls on a gym floor in what seems to be an innocuous fall but turns out to make her lose 10 years of her life. Thus she goes from being a 39 year old separated mother of three to a 29 year old, deeply in love with her husband and pregnant with their first child. The plot is intriguing and one wonders whether Alice will get back with her first love, Nick. To keep the plot lively we also hear about Alice's sister's misadventures and her mother's marriage. Also, telling a tale is Frannie who writes detailed letters to Phil. All in all Moriarty sketches Alice's story well as when she says, "It was extraordinary the way her body knew how to do things - the mobile phone, the make-up, the lock - without her mind remembering her ever having done them before." That about sums it up.

I enjoyed it. It seemed a good illustration in the bafflement we might experience when seeing ourselves objectively (or more objectively, at any rate). It also was an illustration (less good) of how there is another side to behavior that we can so easily judge from a distance.

I was not as in love with this book as other people and I’ve enjoyed other titles from this author more. The ending was good and so was the story, but I found it took a really long time to get going - almost half the book until I enjoyed reading it.

I do like the overall story and what it tells and reminds you of. Overall it’s a good heartfelt story and is easy reading.

A really lovely book. I think the sister and granny asides could maybe have been cut but enjoyed this thoroughly nonetheless.

One of my all time favorite books! I've read it 3 different times, and know I'll read it again. The plot is so unique, I loved each character and I thought it had a great spiritual lesson about time, human flaws, forgiveness and love. A beautiful book.

Hilarious, heartwarming, addictive, and genuine, 'What Alice Forgot' is an unforgettable book. It's brimming with realistic characters with realistic struggles, flaws, and issues. That said, it was a bit silly at parts and overly dramatic, but these small flaws were insignificant compared to the powerful meaning and emotion of this novel. The ending was rushed but it tied a satisfying bow and I punched a fist into the air with delight.

COULD NOT PUT DOWN!! This is my favourite book of Moriarty's. Alice's story is very relatable and compelling. Is your life going to be how you picture it will be in 10 years? Will you like the person you become? Really makes you think. Would recommend this over and over again.

Another great read by Liane Moriarty. It's fascinating to think what one's own life would be like if the past 10 years were suddenly erased. It was fascinating that it was scents that brought back pieces of memories for Alice; I often find that scents trigger memories for me too. Also, her muscle memory would kick in and she found herself surprisingly able to do things that she didn't remember ever having done before. The novel is also about Alice's sister, Elisabeth--her struggles with infertility and their relationship as adult sisters.

A great summer read! Alice has lost a decade of her memory, and is shocked at the changes in her relationships over the past 10 years. As she searches for answers, she discovers that forgetting may be the key to remembering who she really is.

And that's when Ben said, "Lots of children must have lost their parents." He said it solemnly, but also with a definite hint of cheer. As in, hey, how handy! Lots of dead parents! Lots of spare kids up for grabs! Maybe a cute violin player is crawling out of the rubble right now.

"Good luck," said the nurse as I left.
She's the one who always says "Good luck." In a sort of patronizing way.
"Oh, f**k off with your good luck," I said, and punched her in the nose.

Ben's mum is probably right when she says "Nature knows best." Nature knows that I would make a terrible mother. Each time I get pregnant, Nature says, "Actually, this kid would be better off dead than having a mother like her.

The Caesar salad wasn’t very nice. A lackluster attempt. Wilted lettuce. Stale croutons. Very disappointing. Like life.
