Rage awakens the nine-tailed fox spirit within Naruto, giving him the strength to overcome Haku, but can he bring himself to finish the job? As the battle for the Land of the Waves comes to a tragic ending, our heroes return to the village of Konohagakure in time for the Chûnin (journeyman ninja) exams. This volume ends the mini saga of Zabuza. The fight scene takes very sharp turns along the way and makes it unpredictable. It also adds Naruto’s seal again. This time, it is longer and the real effects of it can actually be seen. The character of Haku is also shown consistently throughout the fight and at the end as well. The author builds her up solidly and because of this there is no confusion as to why an underling of Zabuza is acting like this. Zabuza is the complete opposite of her. He fights dirty and does anything to win. The fight shows this very effectively. The reason I am talking about consistency is because these characters were introduced and have been taken out of the story so quickly. This shows good signs to a reader about the future of this story. The writing during these scenes feels very raw and original. It also shows the underlying emotions that both ninjas feel towards each other. The fight truly makes it seem that Zabuza and Kakashi left behind their differences. The rest of the book was bland and was the introduction to the next part of the story. Solid start and middle but dull ending due to the end of a high action fight. 4/5
