"THAMES- SACRED RIVER is about the river from source to sea. It covers the river's history from prehistoric times to the present, its flora and fauna, paintings and photographs inspired by the Thames, its geology, smells and colours, its literature, laws and landscape, its magic and myths, its architecture, trade and weather. The reader learns about the fish that swim in the river and the boats that ply its surface; about floods and tides; hauntings and suicides; miasmas and sewers; locks, weirs, embankments and bridges. This is a lovingly told examination of the Thamesm England's most famous river. The author talks about the origins of the river, the litereature, music and art the river has spawned. He talks about its history, the bridges built over it and the tunnels dug beneath it.

Tracing its course and it's affect on the surroundings. He describes the people who have earned and continue to earn their living from the river.

He talks, too, about its highs and lows including how filthy it once was and how even though it is cleaner it will never be absolutely clean.

It is history and travel wrapped up in one package. Beautifly written and well researched/
