THE INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

One Christmas wish, two brothers, and a lifetime of hope are on the line for hapless Maelyn Jones in In a Holidaze, the quintessential holiday romantic novel by Christina Lauren, the New York Times bestselling author of The Unhoneymooners.
It's the most wonderful time of the year...but not for Maelyn Jones. She's living with her parents, hates her going-nowhere job, and has just made a romantic error of epic proportions.

But perhaps worst of all, this is the last Christmas Mae will be at her favorite place in the world—the snowy Utah cabin where she and her family have spent every holiday since she was born, along with two other beloved families. Mentally melting down as she drives away from the cabin for the final time, Mae throws out what she thinks is a simple plea to the universe: Please. Show me what will make me happy.

The next thing she knows, tires screech and metal collides, everything goes black. But when Mae gasps awake...she's on an airplane bound for Utah, where she begins the same holiday all over again. With one hilarious disaster after another sending her back to the plane, Mae must figure out how to break free of the strange time loop—and finally get her true love under the mistletoe.

Jam-packed with yuletide cheer, an unforgettable cast of characters, and Christina Lauren's trademark "downright hilarious" (Helen Hoang, author of The Bride Test) hijinks, this swoon-worthy romantic read will make you believe in the power of wishes and the magic of the holidays.

Do you ever wish it could be Christmas all year long? What if you were to get stuck in a time loop where you keep reliving one specific Christmas? One when something really embarrassing happened? Could you fix it? Maelyn finds herself going back in multiple episodes after wishing she knew how to be happy. How many times will she have to relive that Christmas to get it right? I'll give you a hint: not as many times as Bill Murray had to repeat Groundhog Day in the iconic movie. I thought this was an entertaining read and found it had some parallel themes with a new release by Dan Frey titled 'The Future Is Yours' which also features time travel. This is my favorite CL title that I have read so far and I just put their April 2021 release, 'The Soulmate Equation,' on my TBR list.

I love a little magic, so I was excited when I realized it was a “Groundhog Day”-type time travel. Descriptive and incredibly well-written, you feel what she’s feeling, you’re right there. Very sexy and sensual, and that heady hyper-aware feeling of being in love. The “rules” of the “time travel” made sense so it was fun. Romance, fun, a little bit of magic - I loved this book!

There is nothing better than a nice and cozy romantic comedy during the holidays. I was wishing that I was there in that cabin with the characters!

I swooned over this magical and sexy Christmas romance. I definitely had an ugly cry moment or two. Very cathartic, actually.

A fun Christmas rom-com where Mae repeats the holiday season at a family cabin "Groundhog Day style" until she finally figures out what will make her truly happy. For the lovers of Hallmark Christmas movies!

I enjoy a good re-telling of a classic story when an author takes creative license and makes it wholly original. My only two exceptions are A Christmas Carol and (while not exactly classic lit,) Groundhog Day. I usually find them both tedious in their replaying of events. After a couple of recent misfires by this author duo and a tired trope, I’ll admit I was hesitant in my desire to read this one. No one can say that I’m not persistent. When it comes to swoon-worthy contemporary romances, Christina Lauren has written some favorites and I’m still unwilling to give up on them.

First the good, In a Holidaze tackled Groundhog Day and managed to keep it refreshing and mysterious with a swiftly moving pace, while not getting stuck on the minutiae of repeating the past. The jumps back in time came unexpectedly and at varying points in the heroine’s timeline where it never felt repetitive.

Now, the not so good. This was a single, first person POV by way of the heroine, Maelyn. Christina Lauren writes wonderfully in 1st person as far as story flow and reader immersion, but this story lacked in development of every character, aside from Maelyn. Unfortunately, that made for a lacking romance. I honestly thought there would be another jump back in time where a different hero would be presented, because, as it stood, I felt almost nothing for the couple's connection.

I did like the characters, but it’s again missing the romantic tension and swoon that I normally associate with these authors. I might have been able to look past that if this was women's fiction and there were other characters and/or relationships that were better developed. In the end, this was a lightly fun and frivolous holiday romp, but nothing really stood out for me.

This is a fun book with a different twist to it, an enjoyable romantic novel.  But I don't think it's up to CL standards -- I look back to 2014, to Sweet Filthy Boy, where the writing is fun to read, exciting, steamy with loving sex and lots of heart.  This writing has no sparkle to it and the characters are flat & one dimensional.  The storyline is novel & different but the writing is a disappointment.
