Book Two in the madcap time-travel series based at the St Mary's Institute of Historical Research that seems to be everyone's cup of tea. In the second book in the Chronicles of St Mary's series, Max and the team visit Victorian London in search of Jack the Ripper, withers the murder of Archbishop Thomas a Becket in Canterbury Cathedral, and discover that dodos make a grockling noise when eating cucumber sandwiches. But they must also confront an enemy intent on destroying St Mary's - an enemy willing, if necessary, to destroy History itself to do it.

A roller coaster of stories in each book that dovetail at the end. Hilarious, clever, fun british slang. I'm trying to pace myself and read one for every 4 other favorite authors--Lindsey Davis, Jim Butcher, Patricia Briggs, Gail Carriger--so I don't finish the whole series too fast ! These are written so well that I plan to start the audiobooks after I finish the print series. This is a great find.

Not bad, but I got a little confused with the whole "I came up with a plan, but won't mention it and then it may unfurl in the next few pages" that happened over and over. Probably not something to read if you tend to skip details, but a fun romp.

If you enjoy imaginative stories that are fun, fast paced, full of fascinating characters, based (not sure how accurately) on history as well as a possible future, then I recommend the series of Chronicles of St. Mary's. Be sure to start with the first book -- "Just One Damned Thing After Another"

What a wonderful series. From this first book til the 3rd I just read. I surely hope Jodi Taylor continues it.

I can't believe these books come audio! I wonder how many drivers had to pull over because they where laughing too hard or crying? Great reads for stuffy areas like bank queues or on the light rail. Nothing stirs the zombies like laughter and then tears.
