Haunting! This really captured the experience. I especially liked the way it got me into their points of view. I see many comments that it is too slow, but I think it's important for the viewer not just to know intellectually but to FEEL.

This is a perfect example of Film Noir. Not only the structure - a scene from the present leading to a presentation of the main action in flashback, then a flashback within the flashback - but also the violence and sex; the overwhelming urge to escape ; the grinding weight of the past; the scars left on the innocent bystanders.

Fresh mini-series even though we knew how the story ended:

-Ben Stiller directed but not an actor in this crime drama, best effort since Zoolander and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.
-Based on the 2015 prison break and the subsequent 23-days manhunt for two convicted murderers at Clinton Correctional Facility, an imposing maximum security state prison for men located in the Village of Dannemora, New York, nicknamed “Little Siberia.”
-Per bonus material, filmed on locations with real guards, ex-cons and manhunt NY State police and U.S. Border Patrol's Tactical Team who were present during the 2015 event.
-Per wiki, the prison is the largest maximum security prison and the third oldest prison in New York. The staff includes about a thousand guards and capacity of nearly 3,000 inmates.
-Prisoners can work in sweatshops and had the ability to pursue other interests – like art, though in a very crowded compound full of hard and dangerous men, except the few women staffs such as "Tilly" (Patricia Arquette - Boyhood 2014) the married tailor shop civilian supervisorr who becomes romantically entangled with both Matt (Benicio del Toro - Sicario) and Sweat (Paul Dano - Brian Wilson in Love & Mercy 2015) and aids in their escape.
-A case study in systemic security lapses inside the prison. The series describe them slowly as complacency leads to failure in time.

Really darned good! Usually something this long would drag, but we never felt that this one did. Recommended!

A 2 out of 5 rating. Quite disappointed in the way this series drags along. There is too much boring detail, such as a policeman hanging around for 25 minutes doing not much. So much could have and should have been left out. Like 3 episodes.... Also, quite discordant music, not to our taste.
Patricia Arquette's performance is a real standout!! Wonderful acting! She is a real pro.
Del Toro was also great, as usual.

WAY better than we expected it to be. We recommend this. Patricia Arquette gives a standout performance; she well deserved her Golden Globe win. Benicio Del Toro is chilling and Paul Dano very good too. Eric Lange did a fine acting job as the husband. The makeup crew deserves a nod too. Some people thought this moved slow, but we did not get that feeling at all. I watched a bit of the commentary which gave additional insight such as why, in the middle of the series, they switch in time to show the backstory of the 2 convicts. It seems slow there, BUT stick with it as there's a good reason for it. This is one of those chilling TRUE stories that you probably would find "not very believable" if it were fiction. Fine directing job by Ben Stiller too. They used many of the actual people in many of the roles; some ex-prisoners and guards from this very place. The tactical team that goes into the woods in the last episode are all the actual guys that did the real mission and they reenact it perfectly. I found this especially interesting because I lived very near this place a few decades ago. So when it broke in the news I followed it carefully. They really did a fine job sticking to the facts!

Arquette never looked any worst than she does in this movie. Basically a nasty person.

Patricia Arquette gives a spellbinding performance in this Showtime limited series based on a true story. I did not recognize her at first. She absolutely deserved her Golden Globe. This is one of those cases where truth is stranger than fiction.
