The classic story continues as Billy Coleman returns from WWII to his grandfather's home in Louisiana and tries to readjust to civilian life after the traumas of war. Grandpa anticipated Billy's state of mind and has a therapeutic gift waiting - a pair of Redbone hound puppies - just like the ones he had as a boy. Soon after his return, Billy befriends a young neighborhood boy named Wilson. The hounds and Wilson become his closest friends and together they help Billy to rediscover the gift of giving and caring.

This was an AWFUL movie. The original book is amazing, but this is a terrible sequel to it.
The story is more about Billy's friend falling in love with Billy's sister, than about Billy. Also, Billy is unenthusiastic about getting hound dogs again, which makes the story disappointing. In the end, Billy's grandfather dies, one of the dogs dies, and Billy gives the other dog to his young neighbor.
I bought the movie thinking it would be good, but was so disappointed and disgusted that I threw it out.
