With the winter as prime character, under the watchful eyes of a silent snowman this story quietly unfolds. Is the snowman demon or protector? Everything seems to pass in a hush. What does it mean?
And suddenly a killing is revealed, horrible and hideous. What is the meaning? Certainly it must fit together somehow.
As prime characters go the winter is lovingly filmed. Snow has somehow become rather evil. The acting is rather subdued, much of what one sees in passing is left unexplained, connecting lines are often left unconnected. This will annoy a lot of viewers. The ending includes no cars crashing or obvious suggestions of dark reveals. It's as if everything has been swallowed by the frozen lake.
Not for everyone, but undeniably not everyone's bomb.

So slow. No drive. Boring. Ok story. Terrible story telling.

This is an "almost" movie. It almost had a good storyline. It almost had a good ending. It almost kept my attention - but not quite.

There is a good film hiding in there somewhere but we get quite a slow moving and confusing crime thriller that is anything but thrilling. It is too bad as Fassbender and Rebecca Ferguson are both great actors but they both look completely lost in the movie.

Gorgeous Norwegian scenery and good actors can't save this muddled plot. Just a basic story about a serial killer who kills women and the broken cop on his trail. You've seen this before.

This movie is set in Norway in the winter, so it is bleak but beautiful, the perfect setting for cold-blooded murder. Unfortunately, the setting and scenery are the best parts of this movie. In general there is a lack of tension, the storyline of the red-herring suspect is clumsy, and even after the murderer is revealed, it's not clear why he has chosen his particularly brutal method of killing. You won't be wasting your time watching this, but it's not outstanding.

This drama/mystery film is in a way quite literally about the life cycles of a snowman, but tries to do so in more of a crime/thriller kind of way. When I first heard about this movie I felt like it had promise, but as I started to watch it, it seemed like a lot of missed opportunities to do something else with the storyline. Some of the scenes in this movie were actually quite scenic and interesting which did help you stay connected to the story, but for the most part it was just very disappointing. I would rate this movie 2/5 stars and recommend it to those who are willing to fill in the missing pieces throughout the film. @The_Reviewer of the Hamilton Public Library Teen Review Board

Some very big names and great acting. The site scenes are beautiful and perfect for a hot summer day. I found the story lacking as in the first 20 mins you know who "dun it". But the acting is worth the watch.

I really enjoyed this movie.

You used to be able to dismiss this kind of film as a "made-for-TV movie." But now since television, at least some cable, is so much better than it used to be, it's not a pejorative anymore. This is an awful film. It's tacky, tired and threadbare. The only interesting thing -- and I'm a Michael Fassbender fan -- is how unusual looking Val Kilmer has become.

Was it right for Sylvia Ottersen to kill her unborn child... simply because she couldn't keep track of who the father was?
-That was her choice.
You have a woman who loves you. A boy who's devoted to you. Why did you abandon them?
-They deserve better.
Too easy.
-Because I'm selfish. I'm an addict. There isn't enough room for them.
You know, when I first saw your picture in the papers... with all those medals... I thought, "That man must have a perfect family."
I need a case... to work on.
-I apologize for Oslo's low murder rate.
