A young woman fleeing the war in Vietnam takes some lotus seeds with her and they remain her treasured possessions throughout her new life in North America. Many years later, one of her curious grandchildren decides to plant them and, thinking her precious lotus seeds are lost forever, she is devastated. The following spring grandmother discovers that the lotus seed has bloomed after all.
