The true heartwarming story of a lost dog's journey and a family's furious search to find him before it is too late. Fielding Marshall was hiking when his dog, a six-year-old golden retriever named Gonker, bolted into the woods and vanished. Fielding was crushed. To make matters worse, Gonker had Addison's disease, and Fielding knew that if he could not find him in time to give him his medication, Gonker would die. With a big heart, an intelligent humor, and a deft touch, Pauls Toutonghi tells the true tale of loss, love, and resilience.

I loved the dog and Fielding's family. But I wonder Fielding ever grew up!

At first, I found Fielding to be seriously annoying. Fielding is Gonker's dad or 'owner' who in my opinion, failed to take good care of Gonker in his early days (living in a decaying shack, not bringing Gonker to the doctor earlier and allowing people to spit in Gonker's mouth as a party joke. This 'party joke' was written lightly about which I can't respect because I don't believe that's good treatment of a dog). But Fielding and his parents make up for his failings by putting in maximum and strategic effort into the search for Gonker. This element of the story is the most powerful and uplifting. The family's love and relentless search for Gonker is perfectly and poetically captured by the author. It's a page-turner as well- you'll get through this book fast.
