Some very big names and great acting. The site scenes are beautiful and perfect for a hot summer day. I found the story lacking as in the first 20 mins you know who "dun it". But the acting is worth the watch.

I really enjoyed this movie.

You used to be able to dismiss this kind of film as a "made-for-TV movie." But now since television, at least some cable, is so much better than it used to be, it's not a pejorative anymore. This is an awful film. It's tacky, tired and threadbare. The only interesting thing -- and I'm a Michael Fassbender fan -- is how unusual looking Val Kilmer has become.

This is a bad adaptation of the book by Jo Nesbo.

For starters, the movie already mispronounced his last name.

It's Hoe-lay not Hole like an opening.

Great book....very bad movie.

Filmed in Norway, during winter. The writer & director wanted to follow the book. Interesting plot, very cold, neat scenery, which adds to the drama of this murder mystery. I enjoyed the characters, and the comments at the end of the film.

This moody, atmospheric rendition of Jo Nesbo's iconic Nordic Noir novel varies somewhat from the original, but the chill certainly seeps in: winter in Norway is so very cold. Split between Bergen and Oslo, the story follows the crimes of an established serial killer whose cases begin to multiply as his m.o. is more closely studied. Harry, a self-destructive, but brilliant detective takes on a rookie colleague with an agenda of her own and together they close ranks on the perpetrator as the snow deepens.
Yes, there are holes in the plot, and inconsistencies in filming as well, but I’m willing to suspend my demand for realism when it comes to Nordic Noir, and I was pleased on the whole. There are a few scenes of gore and suspense, the scenery is stark and lovely, the acting is fair and the actors easy on the eyes. Dynamics of the investigative team are omitted and may have contributed to a tighter plot line, but may have made the movie unnecessarily long. Certainly not a half-star movie unless you’re quite picky!

These reviews are worse then the movie was. Not as bad as most people are saying. Not great either. However, it is completely expained at the end. Not sure why some thought it was full of unanswered questions.

If your looking for a scary movie, this isn't it. Not even suspenseful. WHO LABELS THESE MOVIES ANYWAYS? It is found in the Horror section and should be found in Crime, DRAMA or Mystery. IT IS NOT A HORROR FLICK. The library is really bad at labeling movies.

A Disappointment! Waste of time! Gratuous, sadistic violence that was confusing to understand! I love North European Detective movies, but this is one was a big let down! A disappointing, confusing story!
The scenery and some stunts were good, though! Not worth to watch!

This mystery is set like a long British murder mystery. They go round the block a few 50 times.

I had heard that The Snowman was a supremely bad movie. It isn't. It certainly isn't good, offering moody visuals and solid understated performances but veering wildly between beating the audience over the head and leaving things completely unexplained. The film begins with the latter, an opening sequence in which characters we don't know perform a series of actions that seem entirely inexplicable, even if we were given the full context, which we never are. The result is that a supposedly tragic event becomes laughably absurd, setting a bad tone from the start. After that, the movie settles down somewhat, becoming a paint-by-numbers serial killer thriller, albeit one full of characters and plotlines that go nowhere and do nothing but distract from the central mystery. Perhaps the most interesting thing about the movie is that this was a deliberate decision by the filmmakers - while many of the subplots existed in the book, there they were all connected much more strongly.

Was it right for Sylvia Ottersen to kill her unborn child... simply because she couldn't keep track of who the father was?
-That was her choice.
You have a woman who loves you. A boy who's devoted to you. Why did you abandon them?
-They deserve better.
Too easy.
-Because I'm selfish. I'm an addict. There isn't enough room for them.
You know, when I first saw your picture in the papers... with all those medals... I thought, "That man must have a perfect family."
I need a case... to work on.
-I apologize for Oslo's low murder rate.
