Recollections of the Montana FrontierBook - 1982
References to Flatheads and Kootenais found in George Bird Grinnell's "A White Blackfoot" (p. 57). This is the story of Hugh Monroe, a white man who lived with the Blackfoot. In 1815 Monroe notes that the Blackfoot said that the Flathead and Kootenai were "brave and dangerous" (p. 64) while at the same time a Kootenai man was living with the Blackfoot (p. 70-72). About 1824-25 Monroe traveled with a Blackfoot war party which had a friendly meeting with a party of Flatheads and whites (including Peter Ogden).
