Well done movie full of familiar and famous faces publicizing facts more people should know about. While we knew about it many of the people we told about this movie did not. Gave it three and a half stars because of the subject matter more than how well done it was.

This is a hollywood movie made for you to go see with your grandparents.

Very funny. Good historical/fiction movie. There are some uses of the word s***. Do not know how much of it really happend. I did not know there was and have not read the book.

The book was much better than this simplistic movie. Shame on Clooney for Hollywoodizing such an important part of WWII history. The guys seemed to think they were making "Ocean's 14" for all the depth they gave it. The documentary, "The Rape of Europa", was a hundred times better. Even the b & w Burt Lancaster film, "The Train", was a better telling of part of the story than this was.

True story is a great one. Cast was superb. But movie was terrible, although it had its moments. Writer needs to be fired. Alas, George Clooney was producer and director and screenwriter. Surely he could have done better.

The only drawback to this movie was having George Clooney in the cast. Good plot, some funny moments even if they were somewhat intense. Enough relevant history to give it credibility.

Long and boring!

Good WW II yarn. It is a true story. Just how accurate I don't know. American interpretation can't be trusted.

I enjoyed this movie more than I had anticipated. Although not strictly historically accurate, it was very good for a fictional account. The cast was excellent and made you care about the characters' fates. There was humour as well as drama. I believe movies like this make viewers curious about the true events, which is always a good thing. I watched the documentary The Rape of Europa after seeing this movie, and would recommend both.

I've never seen the movie, probably because I don't like George Clooney, but the book is great. There are some moments where the book gets bogged down with details, but overall, it's worth reading.

James: Well, if it weren't for us,
you'd be speaking German.

Claire: No. If it wasn't for you,
I might be dead.
But I would still be
speaking French.

President Truman: Michelangelo made it [the Bruges Madonna] right?
And you lost a man trying to save it.- Donald Jeffries. You think it was worth it, for a piece of art? Do you think Jeffries would say it was worth it, if he could speak?
Lieutenant: I think he would.

Truman: All right then, how about you, lieutenant? You were in charge, and this gets to the heart of the matter. Do you think 30 years from now, anyone's going to remember that these men died for a piece of art?
Lieutenant: Yeah.

Frank Stokes: You can wipe out an entire generation, you can burn their homes to the ground and somehow they'll still find their way back. But if you destroy their history, you destroy their achievements and it's as if they never existed. That's what Hitler wants and that's exactly what we are fighting for.

Cloony, Goodman, Balaban, and Bill FRICKIN Murray, all trying to save art from the Nazis, plus Matt Damon kinda has his own story going. This should have been awesome! Instead it was ploddingly slow, badly scripted, and had very poor character development where you never feel like you get to know any character all that well. It’s not a total waste, it has some moments, in particular the scene with Bill Murray and the record player, but overall lacks the weight and emotional punch that a movie like this should have. It is disappointing, but still worth seeing, but just makes me wish that it could have been so much more.
