In need of a change, Jenna Hart leaves the high-pressure world of advertising to help her aunt, Vera, open a culinary bookshop and café. Back with her family in Crystal Cove, California, Jenna seems to have all the right ingredients for a fresh start--until someone adds a dash of murder.

As a marketing expert, Jenna wants to make sure the grand opening of the Cookbook Nook draws a crowd, and no one is better at getting attention than her old college roommate, celebrity chef Desiree Divine. But when Desiree arrives in quiet Crystal Cove to do a cookbook signing, the diva stirs up more trouble than business...especially when she turns up dead.

Known for stealing husbands and burning bridges, Desiree left behind plenty of suspects--including Jenna. Though the celebrity's life always appeared to be an open book, Jenna will have to read between the lines in order to clear her name, and catch a killer before another body is served cold.

I really enjoyed this book. It's a perfect cozy with a charming locale, interesting characters, a possible romance, and a darling kitten. No profanity or graphic scenes.

Cookbook Nook series #1. Cozy, gentle read. A little bit too much like many others in this genre. Story somewhat disjointed. Perhaps series improves, but I'm not very motivated to read on. "Agatha "Best First Novel" award winner Daryl Wood Gerber writes several cozy mystery series with an emphasis on food and a strong sense of place, usually picturesque small towns reliant upon tourism for the majority of their income. Pacing of these culinary cozies is leisurely, with descriptions of clothing, recipes, and local scenery interspersed throughout. A lightly humorous narrative tone, intricate plotting, the inclusion of social issues as they affect the community, gradually developing relationships and recurring secondary characters add complexity and depth to the storylines. Start with Final Sentence in the Cookbook Nook Mystery series." - Novelist.

Very good book. I like the setting a bookshop and cafe two of my favourite things.

I really enjoyed this first book in this culinary mystery series. Jenna is a very appealing and strong female character with an interesting back story. The scenic location of Crystal Cove and the eclectic mix of village characters add to the story. I am looking forward to reading the 2nd book, now available.
