This is a great book about a beautiful black horse who recounts the tales of his life. He meets lots of new animals and horses along the way as moves from one farm to another, changing from the countryside to a big city. The story makes you laugh and cry, but has a happy ending so it cheers you up. I think this book is perfect for 9-12 year olds. It was first published in 1887 but definitely stands he test of time. I give this book a 5 star rating. It is one of my favourite books I have ever read! @GymGirl of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library

This was my first time reading this book. I thought it was very sad and heart breaking with all the mistreating of horses that were talked about in this book. Though it wasn't like that all the time some people really did care for Black Beauty and that made you happy. But other times it really made you sad to hear that the horses aren't being cared for and that the drivers whipped them if they weren't doing what they were sopposed to do and that really was horrible to read about. Luckily I found at the end that he found a nice and caring home with people that really do want to take care of him. I give it a 3 star rating. It was happy at times and other times not so happy.

Is it good I wanna do this book for my reading project

Black Beauty is a touching novel that follows the dramatic life of a horse. Throughout the book, Black Beauty meets many different owners - some lovely and some outright despicable. She also meets fellow horses that have faced extreme difficulties of their own. This book makes you consider the treatment of horses and how human pursuit of beauty may compromise the well-being of these thoughtful animals. Black Beauty is an absolute tear-jerker that any animal lover will enjoy. On a scale of 1 to 5, I rate this book a 5 because I really love the plot and the message, and I have read it over five times throughout my life. My inner child was just as charmed reading 'Black Beauty' in my early 40s as I recall having been in my youth. Sewell gives such a genuine, honest voice to the noble creature that the reader is nearly convinced that the book is truly authored by a horse. The instances of inhumane treatment of animals are difficult to swallow, particularly when viewed through a modern lens, though as that was the author's purpose one must admit she was successful in her objective. I suspect few people were standing up to animal cruelty in 1877. The story holds up well, despite having been published 140 years ago, and remains a delightful read which had me teary-eyed at its conclusion.

I loved this book so much! I love how it was from the point of view of Black Beauty himself. You can rarely find books like this one.

I loved this book because you can imagine the feelings of the horse and how many things it had to go through throughout his life.

"McKinley has managed to retain Beauty's unique voice. This version brings back the sharpened cruelty towards Beauty and his companions, and McKinley has rightfully retained the pain and the sadness of some of the incidents. Children will still weep at the death of Ginger, and Jeffer's portrayal of the fire is quite frightening." (Novelist Review)
