Starters, an excellent title for this because once you pick it up, it is extremely hard to put down. Ironically, it’s also the start of the story and series. This book leaves you wanting more and leaves you excited for the following book, no doubt.

The book is about a future where young people are able to lend their bodies out to older people. These people typically take the bodies to clubs and just out to have fun in the youthful body they’ve rented. Well, Callie, the main character, soon learns that it’s not such a simple process and the money may not necessarily be worth the risk. There’s much more going on behind the scenes.

I don’t want to give the book away so I’ll leave it at that. The book was absolutely excellent and kept me engaged. I’m not usually into sci-do type books but this one was very good and worth the read! I’ve already started the following book in the series as well and hope it’s just as good because I’m anxious to see what happens next!

Clever premise somewhat artfully achieved, but something was missing in this story. I couldn't really relate to our protagonist, and though it might be a cautionary tale about the actual divide between adult and teen sensibility, a more nuanced approach might have been more effective. It is written from a teen point-of-view, so understandably unequivocal. Well now I'm doing it too!

In Callie's world, there are only kids and seniors. All the in-betweens, not having been vaccinated in time, have been wiped out by a biological war. Callie's parents were far from being rich, so when they died, she and her brother Tyler became squatters and scavengers, hiding from the Marshals so they won't be institutionalized. When life became too much, Callie turns to the Body Bank, a hush hush organization where you can rent out your body to seniors who want to experience being young again, in exchange for money, a lot of money. Just imagine, sleeping in a bed again...
The first two rentals went fairly smoothly. You're basically asleep for the whole time and you don't feel or remember anything, but something went wrong during her final rental. Callie gained control of her body in the middle of the rental, and found out why this senior wanted to rent her: murder!
Starters delivered on its killer premise, and I haven't read anything this gripping for a long time. The story had the usual dystopian thing where the characters uncovered a big conspiracy, but at least the plot thickened page after page and built up naturally. Even some of the plot conveniences can be explained at the end, so the sequencing is quite good. All the touchy-feely stuff is done just to the right amount, and it's all the little scenes that manage to pack so much emotions in them. While it's clear that the author is priming for a sequel, the first book does end and finishes the story properly. Looking forwards to the sequel.

I loved this book, if you did too I would recommend Coda by EmmaTrevayne. Also follows the future theme and a teen changing the world.

I loved this book. I could not put it down for a second and ended up reading it in less than a day. Starters had an interesting view of the future. I can't wait for the next book.

Starters is a YA adventure/mystery set in a futuristic Los Angeles. Ignore the cover- although creepily gorgeous it has nothing to do with the story. Which, by the way, is fairly creepy in concept.

I thought the book had a unique concept, and it wove some wonderful Cinderella re-telling moments in there. The Starters (teens) and Enders (those in their hundreds- everyone lives longer in the future) are contrasted in a way that reflects the socioeconomic contrasts of today: if we eliminate the middle class (or in the book, those between the ages of mid-20's to 100), what happens?

I was glad that this wasn't a stand-alone, but the first novel in a series. There were parts that were a bit Deus Ex Machina, but then Price would turn your expectation on its head with some new revelation.

I really liked that Callie realistically was more concerned with the survival of her brother (and self) than taking down an evil corporation. Her voice seemed genuine, and believable.

Overall, I recommend this for fans of techno-dystopian YA, realistic female protagonists, overlapping mysteries, and good, creeptastic villains. Honestly, The Old Man freaked me out more than he freaked Callie out (if, after getting to the last page, you don't shudder in revulsion, you have a heartier stomach than I do).
