Brilliant movie, with a dry Irish sense of humor. The film never veers off into absolute bedlam and silliness, but is kept grounded by real relationship interactions.

Darkly funny (once you get past the racism/sexism). Brendan Gleeson owns his role as the cantankerous Irish cop with his own sense of humor, morals, and justice. Don Cheadle also does a great job as the fish-out-of-water American FBI agent…

Really good with lots of sarcastic, dry humor played straight. It does have some moments of sadness too. All in all, I am very glad I watched it. One must be aware that the f word is used about 800 times it seems so be ready.

The Irish penchant for political incorrectness is dark indeed in John Michael McDonagh’s comedic policier set in a small backwater on Ireland’s west coast. Shot through with trenchant wit delivered in a barely comprehensible brogue and a…

You've probably seen this type of film before where two law enforcement officers whose styles clash must work together. This one is done very well, though, and has the added benefit of being set in Ireland. By the end of the movie, I found…

I didn't like this DVD at all - only watched first 15 mins and knew it wasn't for me.

Well-done dramedy which has the advantage of starring Brandon Gleeson as a hardened Garda policeman who still believes in right & wrong and doesn't suffer fools lightly. The interplay between him and Don Cheadle is what makes the film…
5 Stars!
Superb characters of Brendan Gleeson and Don Cheadle. The underbelly of Irish culture is exposed for all to see. Nobody is safe from the quick jabs! Enjoy!

Really enjoyed this film of international // cooperation \\ between an Irish copper, Gleeson, and the American G-man, Cheadle. Excellent acting, excellent chemistry between the actors who played off each other quite nicely.

An irreverent comedy that pitches an unorthodox policeman against a group of philosophical drug-smugglers. Definitely worth seeing - except, of course, if you are humorless and afraid of sharp language, in which case you should continue…

Hilarious, suspenseful police-buddy comedy between Brendan Gleeson's "unconventional" Connemara police sergeant and Don Cheadle's privileged, straitlaced FBI agent. Witty dialogue and excellent acting, and a character-driven plot driven by…

It's an interesting little movie with a peculiar sense of humour. You either get it or you don't. Gleeson and Cheadle have amazing chemistry and a funny little gem worth watching (if you keep an open mind).

“The guard” has a weak plot and often resorts to stereotypes in order to get some laughs. It is unclear whether it was meant to be a comedy or a police drama/action film. The one thing that is quite evident to me is the wasted talent in…
