I'm not a big series reader and this is the first book by Maureen Johnson that I have read, but this was a great YA murder mystery and I am excited to read the second book in the trilogy!
Young and intellectual Stevie decides to break free from her oppressively conservative parental units by enrolling at a prestigious and remote school with hopes of solving the 80-year old mystery surrounding the wife and child of the schools wealthy/famous founder.
While busting out mad detecting skills and making new inroads in this cold case Stevie also tackles the every day trials and tribulations of being a teen at a new school - making friends, navigating classes, and discerning the difference between attraction and annoyance.
Excellent read for both youth and adults! I'll definitely be looking for more titles by Johnson too.I'm not a big series reader and this is the first book by Maureen Johnson that I have read, but this was a great YA murder mystery and I am excited to read the second book in the trilogy!

I thoroughly enjoyed this tale of redemption, grieving, and soul searching! Mari after losing her cousin, decides to break free from her social media addiction and make the long-distance hike her and her cousin Bri had always talked about doing to celebrate their shared 18th Birthday. Along her hiking adventure Mari meets numerous people who positively impact her and her experiences along her journey teach her self-worth, to trust in her abilities, and to never give up. A funny, relatively light-hearted 'Wild' for the young adult!I thoroughly enjoyed this tale of redemption, grieving, and soul searching! Superb YA taking place in Sweden, that brings attention to how isolating it can feel as a teen who doesn't quite fit in with their peers. This novel also highlights the value of intergenerational friendships, jazz music, and the importance of being kind. "Everyone you meet is fighting a battle of their own which you know nothing about" and this book does a brilliant job of demonstrating that truth from the perspectives of numerous characters.Superb YA taking place in Sweden, that brings attention to how isolating it can feel as a teen who doesn't quite fit in with their peers. "When a woman risks her place/her very life to speak/a truth the world despises?/ Believe her. Always."
This work of historical fiction written in largely in verse hits right at the very heart of issues of gender, rape, victim-shaming, and strength of spirit and conviction. A difficult, but valuable read for youth and adults both, and a brilliant reminder that survivors of sexual violence are not alone. The story is based on true events that happened to a young Italian artist in the 1600s and the stand she takes against her attacker and the society which sought to condemn her. A brilliant debut!

I loved the way this story was told in two different voices (and two different time periods). This YA mystery alternates back and forth between Sadie's perspective, as she hunts down her sister's killer, and of West McCray, producer of a podcast attempting to learn what has become of Sadie after she goes missing in her pursuit of justice. Excellent read! I'd recommend this for older readers (16+), due to its' sensitive subject matter.I loved the way this story was told in two different voices (and two different time periods). An inspiring letter to youth (or every one really, hence the title) who is feeling the pressure to conform and give up on their dreams. Reynolds wants you to know that you are not alone and that you shouldn't give up.

I really enjoyed this YA (bordering on New Adult) book set in Australia largely in a used bookshop complete with a 'Letter Library' where people can leave notes to one another in the books. It's a coming-of-age tale dealing with unrequited Love, as well as grief and friendship, and the fact that it incorporates lots of books into the story is great too.I really enjoyed this YA (bordering on New Adult) book set in Australia largely in a used bookshop complete with a 'Letter Library' where people can leave notes to one another in the books. A beautifully written coming-of-age story. Xiomara (AKA Poet X) narrates her experience in verse, making this book a quick but emotional read, as she deals with first-love, questioning her faith, an over-protective parent, and finding the courage to share her poems/voice with the world.A beautifully written coming-of-age story. An introspective first person narrative about coming out and the intricacies of relationships, romantic and otherwise...I'm reading the second book right now (Leah on the Offbeat) and it so far is just as enjoyable.

What do zombies, musclebound cat-people, and university have in common? They all play a role in this hilarious first volume of Kim Reaper! This books spunky lead character had me laughing out loud as I read about their escapades as a Part-time Grim Reaper (how else does one put themselves through school after all?) and her developing love interest, Becca. I found this book to reflect how a teen might accurately react to the sudden passing of a sibling (particularly a beloved one). The book started out quite emotional and sad, but watching the progression of the main character through her grieving process while at grief camp was very inspiring. I'd recommend this for any youth who've lost someone to suicide or otherwise.I found this book to reflect how a teen might accurately react to the sudden passing of a sibling (particularly a beloved one). "Your silence will not protect you." Audre Lorde
A poignant quote form this Awesome YA book about girls standing up for themselves (and each other) against sexism and gender prejudice. Vivian, the main character, struggles throughout the book between her want to fit-in and not make waves and her anger over the sexist behavior of the elite football players of her school, but her anger and desire for fair treatment win out and she unwittingly starts a movement at her school.
I cannot recommend this book highly enough, and believe it should be required reading for ALL high school students.
Read it, just read it.

I loved his book! I loved how it spoke about the experience of a young transgendered woman from her perspective. I loved that it was written by a member of the transgender community and loosely based on her own experience and that it didn't end as I thought it would. It caused me to examine some of my own assumptions or biases during the course of my reading it too, which was so valuable. Excellent YA read!I loved his book! While reading this classic (which I have been meaning to read for years), I was struck by a feeling that does not often occur for me as I am not a big re-reader. I felt like I would read and re-read this book many times again in my life and would want to have it as part of my personal collection.
